About me:
I
am a qualified counsellor, accredited by the British Association for
Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am continually inspired by witnessing the rewarding changes that
counselling enables people to make. Talking things through certainly does help
people to feel better and also helps them to make changes in their lives.
I listen and reflect back about what has been said - and perhaps what has
not been said. Also I ask questions that help people express their feelings,
start to think more deeply about their life situation and to see themselves in
a new light.
I
have many years counselling experience, working with individuals, couples and
young people. I originally trained in Psychodynamic Counselling with the Wessex
Counselling Service, an affiliate of the Westminster Pastoral Foundation and
also counselled for them for some years. Then I trained in other counselling
methods so that now my approach is “integrative” – meaning that I work
with several kinds of therapy to meet the specific needs of each client.
I
counselled for the NHS for over 10 years, receiving referrals from GPs and
other health professionals – giving me experience of a very wide variety
of issues. I was also a school
counsellor in two schools for several years, which gave me valuable insights
into the difficulties that young people face. Now my main focus is my private
practice.
I
am a founder member of Sarum Counselling, a registered charity based in
Salisbury.
I am a member of the Dorset Association of Counsellors
and Psychotherapists.
I
trained and worked for Cruse Bereavement Care.
I
work for several Employee Assistance Programmes.
I work in accordance with Code of Ethics and
Practice of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and
regularly attend courses on aspects of my work as part of my continuing
professional development.
